I just thought I'd drop a line to the group with a bit of information about the new Brunettes album, "Structure & Cosmetics".
Here's the cover ...
... and here's the tracklist:
1. Brunettes Against Bubblegum Youth
2. Stereo (Mono Mono)
3. Her Hairagami Set
4. Credt Card Mail Order
5. Obligatory Road Song
6. Small Town Crew
7. If You Were Alien
8. Wall Poster Star
9. Structure & Cosmetics
The album will be released on Lil' Chief Records on July 25th in New Zealand, and in early August on Sub Pop in the USA. Initial pressings which are pre-ordered from the Lil' Chief mailorder shop will come with some kind of exclusive free gift - at this stage it looks like it'll be a Brunettes colouring book - although this will be confirmed at some point in the near future.
Keen readers will note that live favourite "Mary-Kate & Ashley" isn't on the album. The band weren't sure it really fitted with the mood of the rest of the LP, and didn't want it to become the kind of novelty song which eclipsed the rest of the album, and thereby end up as 'that band that did that Mary-Kate and Ashley' song. The good news is that the song will be coming out on a Lil' Chief Records compilation in a few months.
In other Brunettes-related news, we've almost totally sold out of "The Boyracer EP" and "When Ice Met Cream". Those two EPs will be compiled on one CD at some point in the not-too-distant future. (Despite being released a few years apart, the material from those two EPs comes from the same time period, around the time of "Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks", so we think the 12 songs will work nicely as a "missing" Brunettes album.) We've recently repressed copies of both "Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks" and "Mars Loves Venus", both of which are available for US$14 each incl P&P from New Zealand. Remember, the band gets more money if you order directly from us, and we try to make our prices as cheap as possible given the puny New Zealand dollar. Plus, we love you more than those big online stores. They hate you. Remember that.
OK, well that's all for now ... I'll post a bit more in the leadup to the album release. Suffice to say the new album is really, really, great and we're really excited about it.
